Meet Power11: The next generation of IBM Power

As one of IBM’s leading partners in the Asia-Pacific region, we couldn’t be more excited to share that IBM Power11 systems will officially hit the market this month—July 25, to be exact.

To call the introduction of Power11 anything less than a revolution for infrastructure would be understating it. Touted as the most future-forward infrastructure solution in the history of IBM Power, Power11 is built to give enterprises the speed, flexibility, and resilience they need to compete in the AI era—an age characterised by accelerated innovation and a bulging tech product market.

IT is facing unprecedented challenges

Powered by rapidly advancing AI, 1 billion new applications are expected to hit the market by 2028.¹ This deluge of new tools forces enterprise businesses into a challenging juncture, under pressure to adopt and integrate new apps without compromising commercial performance. They’ll be faced with the enormous challenge of weaving new tools into an already crowded, mission-critical environment without breaking what’s there, skyrocketing costs, or overstretching their people. On top of that, they’ll be competing harder than ever for scarce IT talent, with technology skills projected to be the most in-demand until 2030.²

To succeed in this age, enterprises need their infrastructure to be robust, resilient, and ready to embrace the seismic technological shift that’s already underway. Unfortunately, few can claim this level of readiness.

According to the IBM Institute for Business Value, 70% of business leaders say their tech architecture breeds internal confusion and disagreement. In the same breath, nearly two-thirds admit that this same architecture is critical to how they use IT to improve business results.³ This tension highlights a critical gap: The systems businesses rely on are the same ones limiting their progress. Companies need a way to turn their tangled and contentious IT backbone into a sturdy platform that will properly support their growth. They need it fast, too. IBM research indicates that 92% of executives expect their workflows to be digitised and leveraging AI-enabled automation by 2025.

To bridge the chasm between the infrastructure we have and the capabilities we need, IBM created Power11, the next generation of autonomous IT built for the AI era we’re living in.

The IBM Power11 advantage

Every layer of Power11 has been carefully constructed to enable enterprises to move fast, without risking security or stability.

Purpose-built for AI workloads

Power11 comes loaded with an on-chip engine for advancing AI inferencing, a capability made possible through IBM’s Spyre Accelerator card. Set for release in late 2025, Spyre brings leading edge acceleration to Power11 AI functions, equipping organisations with a ready-made platform to run and scale demanding AI workloads across hybrid cloud environments.

This level of autonomous support translates into significant performance gains. Power11 delivers up to 55% higher core performance than Power9 and up to 45% greater overall capacity than Power10. The monumental step up in performance opens new doors for enterprises, enabling them to transform their processes with automation.

Less than 30 minutes of downtime annually

Power11 is expected to deliver 99.9999% uptime. That’s less than 30 minutes of downtime each year, with zero planned downtime for system maintenance. The platform achieves this through baked-in features like autonomous patching and automated workload movements, which enable planned maintenance to take place without needing to take critical applications offline.

Also, this level of autonomous support translates into significant performance gains. Power11 delivers up to 55% higher core performance than Power9 and up to 45% greater overall capacity with higher core counts in entry and mi-range systems than Power10.

Rapid threat detection, response, and recovery

Ransomware, data theft, and ‘harvest-now, decrypt-later’ attacks are rising in scale and sophistication. To protect against malicious actors, the Power11 platform has been built with security at the centre. Benefitting from IBM Power Cyber Vault, Power11 automatically captures, stores, and tests immutable snapshots to protect against data corruption and encryption. If a ransomware threat appears, Cyber Vault is capable of detecting it in less than sixty seconds and automatically escalating to response and recovery. To defend against firmware integrity attacks, Power11 uses NIST-approved quantum-safe cryptography to block unauthorised code long before it can take hold.

Greater IT efficiency energy savings

Rapid and widespread AI adoption has already dramatically increased global energy consumption, and this is just the beginning. The International Energy Agency (IEA) projects that by 2030 the share of worldwide electricity consumed by data centres will double.⁴ For enterprises aiming to honour their net-zero commitments while thriving commercially, that presents a fresh challenge.

IBM has engineered Power11 to squeeze more value from every watt and every licence. The platform delivers twice the performance per watt of comparable x86 servers, so you can meet rising demand without blowing up your energy bill or your carbon footprint. Switch on the new Energy Efficient Mode offered in Power11 and the system runs up to 28 percent more efficiently than its Maximum Performance Mode. These gains flow through the stack. With higher utilisation per core, you need fewer physical processors, cutting software licensing and maintenance costs.

Power11 means future-ready

Power11 is the first infrastructure platform purpose-built for the AI age, a time when new software lands faster than most organisations that catch it. With on-chip AI acceleration and unprecedented resilience, the usual trade-offs between speed, security, and cost disappear. It’s a platform that equips enterprises with the infrastructure and support they need to confidently progress into the AI-led future of business.
